Prime Ministers of Russia and Finland, Juha Sipilä and Dmitry Medvedev, discussed economic and trade ties between two countries at the meeting in St. Petersburg. Dmitry Medvedev noted that for the first half of 2017 the trade turnover between our countries reached $5.9 billion. This is one and a half times more than in the same period last year. This is remarkable progress after the recession in 2014-2016, when the sanctions, imposed by the EU against Russia, reduced turnover by 40 %.

The second question, that was raised at the meeting of the Prime Ministers, is the project “Northern stream-2”. Mr. Sipila said that the Finnish position on this project remains positive. According to the Finnish Prime Minister, the most important thing for Finland is the observance of environmental norms while implementation of the “Nord stream-2” project. The Prime Minister of Russia noted that the EU's position on this issue is not so practical as in Finland.
