Popularity of Finland among tourists grows, as well as traffic jams on the border

According to the Consular Department of Finland in St.-Petersburg, the number of visas issued to Russians in 2017 increased by 64%. And the number of Finnish citizens, who wish to visit Russia, declined by a quarter.

Experts note not only the growth of the tourist flow to Finland, but also the fact that the Russians are ready to spend more money in foreign stores. The average bill increased by almost 60 euros in comparison with 2016, and major expenses are made to buy food. The flow of tourists from Suomi could reduce because of the restrictions imposed on the tobacco import in the middle of the last year. Now a resident of Finland shall stay on the territory of Russia for at least a day in order to bring cigarettes in Finland without paying tax.

Increase in the number of visas issued and the new year holidays once again led to hours-long traffic jams at the border. According to witnesses, closing of the "Brusnichnoe" checkpoint for buses resulted in a long queue of cars at the "Torfyanovka" checkpoint. In the queue you could spend up to 3 hours.
