From Russia to Finland by car without a driver

The Federal Road Agency of the Russian Federation has marked the start date of the test races of self-driving cars on the highway linking Helsinki and the Northern capital of Russia.

First tests will be conducted at the end of spring 2018. The constant traffic of cars, that go without human intervention, is scheduled to start in 2020-2021 years. The preparation of the roadway and associated infrastructure in the two countries is carried out within the framework of the St. Petersburg-Helsinki international intelligent transport corridor project. This road section is planned to become subsequently a part of the global transport route of China–EU.

According to the plan of the engineers, development of this transport area using highly intelligent developments, contributes to safer traffic, will reduce the time for border crossing and increase the trade volume between the Russian Federation and the European Union.
