New lay of line E-18 will pass under the hill Rasa-Akho

A through dual tube tunnel was axcavated under the hill Rasa-Akho at a 32-kilometer section of the E-18 route which is under construction from the Russian border to Hamina. During August the tunnel will be expanded to the required dimensions, and by the autumn of 2017 construction works will be completed.
The tunnel length is 225 metres. The decision to build the road under the hill was made for reasons of the environment to diminish man-caused impact on the valley landscape of Vaalimaa river. The project contemplates construction of 40 bridges, 5 of which are already built. According to The transport agency of Finland, the E-18 route on which it will be possible to go from the Russian border to Turku will be completely ready for operation in the spring of 2018.
