Chilean salmon prices continue to grow in Finland
Publishedо 22 March, 2016
The rise in prices of salmon supplied to Finland from Chile is determined by a sharp decline of its catch volume because of the spread of naturally occurring toxic substances in shore waters. The temperature rise of sea water due to the natural phenomenon El Niño contributes to the active growth of toxic algae that significantly reduces the population of commercial fish.

The wholesale price of Chilean salmon has grown by more than 50% since the autumn of 2015 – from 4 euros per a kilo to 6-7 euros, while the Norwegian manufacturers have already raised the wholesale prices by 30%. Salmon producers in Chile suspect further drop in annual production by 15-20% that will result in a greater price rise.
